Is Peace unattainable?

Sometimes we as a people grasp onto only tidbits of the information we receive. Sometimes it is what we are taught. Sometimes it is what we choose. This also seems to occur in Christians and our understanding of the Bible. A brief example, would be the story of Noah. Ask almost any child and they can tell you Noah took animals 2 by 2 onto the ark in pairs. Most people don't know that Noah took 2 of every unclean animal and 14 of every clean animal as described in Genesis 7.

What brings all of this up, especially after a long pause in my blogging. Honestly, in part it derives from the newly sworn in President of the United States. The other part is how I hear people (not just media) saying, "Finally we can get things fixed". This is not a dig, jab or any other kind of derogatory gesture towards any group. But I think we as Christians forget that Christ came to save us and divide the World.

In Matthew 10 Christ says, " 34 “Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword. 35 ‘I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 Your enemies will be right in your own household!’" [From the new living at BibleGateway.com]. Christ also says in Luke 12, "Do you think I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I have come to divide people against each other! 52 From now on families will be split apart, three in favor of me, and two against—or two in favor and three against."

Christ did also teach peace. He spoke about being kind to one another, even loving your neighbor as much as you love yourself. We are also instructed to "turn the other cheek". However, I don't think this is to be at peace, as much as it is to demonstrate love and be blameless like Christ.

I could be grossly inaccurate in my conclusions here, it has happened once or twice before, but we need to understand peace isn't possible until the end times and events described in revelations. Does that mean I dismiss peace and champion war? No. It simply means that as I go out and share the Love of Christ with others I will become increasingly despised and rejected, just as Christ was. This will continue until I am called away or Christ returns.
